| CAMMIE Coated Wheaten Terrier. Her estimated DOB is 7/02 up in a animal shelter. We found out about her from another rescuer and quickly made arrangments to get her our of the shelter as she was limping and there was concern that she may have a shoulder injury. Thankfully the limping has stopped and she seems to be fine but we will keep and eye on her and see how it goes. She is friendly and has gotten along well with other dogs. She is a little shy and scared right now but will come around quickly - who knows what she went through while wandering loose. UPDATE FROM FOSTER MOM Both Aidan and Cammie arrived in pretty good condition (as well as their circumstances allowed) last night. Laurie (bless her brave soul) drove not once but twice on a summer Sunday afternoon across Manhattan from New Jersey to Brooklyn to pick up these sweeties. She drove them up the Thruway to a rest stop where my son (who was coming off his Marine Reserve duty weekend in Newburgh) had driven down to pick them up. The dogs traveled well, seemed to have some familiarity with cars, and arrived in the early evening in Watervliet (a little city near Albany). Cammie is a sweetie. She is fragile physically. She always brings up the rear in our now four dog pack. But she comes valiantly. Twenty-one pounds for a mature Wheaten is very thin, but it is amazing how quickly these dogs respond to care. Last night she looked like a concentration camp survivor. You could count every rib. Today, already not so much. We will need to get her ears in shape and when/if she has to be spayed, she will need her teeth cleaned because she has bad breath. And she needs a bath, which she will get tonight. We thought a bath on top of everything else she experienced yesterday would be way too much. But she is so grateful to be in a safe place. Every time I look down there is Cammie with her head half an inch from my knee. This morning, when I was sitting outdoors with the paper to make sure the dogs all did their post-breakfast business in the yard, she wanted to sit on my lap. She is small enough to sit on a lap. She curled up for an hour and was perfectly content. Cammie will make someone a wonderful gentle companion. I was glad Laurie posted new pictures of Cammie, because the shelter picture made her look very strange – all eyes and sort of manic. She has a typical Wheaten appearance as you can tell from Laurie’s pictures. But someone gave her a schnauzer haircut. The combination of too much bushy hair around the eyes and no fall made her look weird. There is nothing wrong with a schnauzer haircut – on a schnauzer. On a Wheaten, the cut looks ugly. But as Wendy says, it is only hair and will grow out. We will give more information as she settles in, gains some badly needed weight and gets the pampering she deserves. We will need to determine if she has been spayed or not and if not she will be prior to adoption. She is up to date on shots and is located in Watervliet, NY |
