| JACK Jack is a purebred male Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier. His DOB is 5/05 Jack is a owner turn-in. He is being kept in an electric fence and as we have seen happen time and time again he has become aggressive towards people or animals that come within the fenced area. We have found that removing dogs from this type of fencing and putting them into traditionally fenced yards lose the aggressiveness quickly. Some info from the owners: He has become very territorial and aggressive towards other dogs; he is on an electric fence, which we think may have caused or assisted with the problem as he was not at all aggressive before. When people walk past the property he will usually bark, if outside, he will follow them within the perimeter of his fence. Twice in the past 2 months the fence malfunctioned so he was not corrected when he got too close and he went across the line and attacked the dogs being walked on the other side. When we do get a chance to walk Jack outside of our yard 90% of the time another dog walks by us he doesn’t care at all. About 18 months ago he did bite our friends 5 yr old son in the leg when he was riding his bike through our yard, he didn't break the skin, just left a bruise and we went to some training where we explained the incident and were told we missed signs that the dog was over stimulated, because the kid was riding a bike in the yard and Jack had been barking at him. We agree we should have intervened sooner. Jack is a very loving and wonderful dog and our kids love him. We know Jack would make a wonderful pet with people without other animals or small children, although, he can 100% be around children, and is regularly, but the owner needs to be on alert that those children are not antagonizing the dog. Updated info from owner: I just wanted to state that he is not aggressive towards people hardly ever, neighbors walk across the line and come into our yard often, Jack is happy to see them. We wanted to give full disclosure when writing about Jack but the write up does make him sound more aggressive than he is. Besides the incident a couple years back he is not very aggressive at all with people. Due to the incident with the child on the bike we will not consider homes with children under 12 for this dog and will require a securely fenced yard. As we have two dogs in rescue at this time named Jack it is important that you designate JACK MA on any applications for this dog. Jack is neutered and up to date on shots. He is located in Lakeville, MA |
