SHAWN

Shawn is a 4 year old male Soft Coated
Wheaten Terrier. His DOB is 10/04

He is an owner turn-in, he is being
turned over due to personal issues that
have nothing to do with Shawn.
Information from them is below:

He was found in an outside holding pen
at the Meigs County, Ohio(Pomeroy) dog
pound.  He was a very thin 35 pounds
when I first saw him.  Ribs, hip bones,
and backbone were quite prominent.  He
is microchipped and was traced back to
the breeder in Missouri, a Petland in
Chillicothe, Ohio, and the original owner.
Both the vet and I tried to locate her to
no avail.  He is very outgoing and loves
to play with toys.  I have seen no sign of
aggression whatsoever in him.  He has
been around my three year old niece and
seven year old grandson and was A-OK.
Shawn gets along with my female
Wheaten and Yorkie-Poo just fine. I have
not had him around other males due to
my knowledge of Wheatens. My two get
mad at him when he chases after them.  I
feel most confident in saying that he
should not be placed in a home with
cats.  He knows the sit command very
well and takes treats out of my hand
more gently than any dog I have EVER
had.  He seems to be housebroken but I
have used a belly binder prior to
neutering because I am not used to
males and was afraid he might "shower"
the edges of things with the girls being
here.  He is very affectionate but does
tend to play nip a habit I'm still trying to
break.  I have found him to get into
mischief chewing on small things
especially when I'm at work.  He stays in
the utility room and I come home at lunch
to let him out.  Having been involved in
the training of dogs on and off for 30
years I can say without a doubt he does
need a manners class or basic
obedience one.  He is a great flight risk
when it comes to an open door.  My dog
door has been a blessing though.  He
likes snow but not rain.

From Shawn's current foster mom:

He has finished week-long obedience
training and scored very well on
basic commands!  He is learning to walk
on a leash without pulling and is making
good progress.

Shawn is a high-energy dog who loves to
play outside and loves his toys! He is
all-boy and would best be placed with an
individual or family who could keep up
with all that energy.  As stated
previously, he has shown
absolutely no aggressive tendencies, in
fact, he has been gentle with a
new Wheaten puppy on our block.

Shawn is neutered and up to date on
shots
