| Wheaten Meetin' 2002 "Home, S'Wheat Home" |
| The Annual "Wheaten Meetin'" was held in Kansas City, Missouri on March 15-17, 2002. We had a great time with our first Wheaten Meetin' in 2001! If you would like to see pictures of the event please click here. The Wheaten Meetin' is a gathering on Wheaten Lovers from around the country who get together and have a wonderful time with parties and get-togethers culminating in our participation in the Kansas City St. Patrick's Day Parade. The Kansas City Parade is the 2nd largest parade in the country and the Wheaten's were a big hit last year. This year the Meetin' was bigger and better than ever! We had people fly in from New Jersey, Virginia and Wisconsin and people drive in from Oklahoma and Nebraska. And, of course, we had our wonderful Kansas City Group here in force! The events kicked off on Friday evening with a wonderful meal with lots of great wine at Ilikis Cafe and then we made a trip to a local Casino. Saturday morning we descended on a local restaurant for breakfast and then headed to the Meetin' Hall for a full day of events. The food was outstanding with Jessica making wonderful chili in the afternoon and Michelle's wonderful lasagna in the evening. The day was spent decorating the float, trips to Parkville, demonstrations and lots of great talking and socializing. You can't imagine the scene with Wheatens running everywhere, bowing, chasing and having a great time with one another. Sunday was the best day of the whole weekend. The weather was absolutely perfect, the sun was shining and the sky was blue. We had a great time on the float and the crowd absolutely LOVED the Wheatens. The cheers and waves were wonderful. The New York Fire Department was part of the parade and one of the firefighters came up to the float because he wanted to pet one of the Wheatens. We had a great time waving to the crowd and singing along to Holly's great music. "Who let the dogs out" was a great hit with the crowd, especially when they saw the Wheatens. The dogs of course ate up the attention and had fun on the ride. All to soon the parade was over and after a late lunch it was time for everyone to go home. We caused quite a scene at the airport with all the Wheatens waiting to fly home. So, for now, we will bask in the glow of a wonderful weekend, remember all those great moments we had, look at our pictures and count the days until...
