SIDNEY

Sidney is a 11 month old purebred Soft
Coated Wheaten Terrier.

We did not list a sex for Sidney because
basically we do not know what sex the
dog is.

Sidney is either a hermaphrodite or
pseudohermaphorodite, at this time we
do not know which. Sidney is actually the
2nd Wheaten we have had with this
condition, the first was a
psuedohermaphrodite.

A pseudohermaphrodite may have the
outside physical appearance of a male
or female but the internal organs will not
match the external as we understand
the condition. A true hermaphrodite will
have the internal organs of both sexes.

In this case, the outside genitalia
appears to be female, however there is
a small penile protrusion coming out of
the vulva which will be removed when
the dog is altered. We will not know if
the dog is male, female, or neither until
that time. However, since the outward
appearance is female and all the internal
sexual organs will be removed during
altering we will refer to the dog as
female. We believe that is much easier
than trying to explain to people why the
male puppy has no penis.

Sidney came to our attention when a
lady in Iowa saw a "Free Dog" poster
about her. As the family already had a
Wheaten of their own, she was well
aware that a Wheaten needs a special
type of home and that this would not be
a good situation for the dog. She
contacted the person and found out that
they were a commercial breeder and
wanted the dog gone as it could not be
bred. She contacted the rescue and
then made arrangements to get Sidney
from the kennel. Not only did they get
her they drove several hours to meet us
and get her safely into rescue. Sidney is
very lucky that this person saw the flyer
about her as she now safely out of that
facility and will find a nice loving home
because of their caring about her.

Although Sidney has a very interesting
story, none of this changes the fact that
she is an extremely sweet and loving
little dog and will make someone a
WONDERFUL pet. Her condition will not
have any lasting repercussions for her
and she will live a nice normal life.

Sidney has a beautiful, very soft coat
and is a bit on the small side at just a bit
over 20 lbs. As she is already 11 months
old, it is unlikely she will get much larger.

We will take her to a specialist for her
altering as it will be different than a
normal spay or neuter and she will have
all her shots current prior to her
adoption.

Since we do not know what sex she
really is, it will most likely be necessary
to place her in a home that does not
have and does not intend on getting a
second dog for safeties sake.
