| A litter of Wheatable puppies were abandoned and left in an old trailer with no fans or air conditining in 90+ temperatures. When they were discovered, several had unfortunately already died from heat exhaustion. We would like to be able to bring these 5 into rescue as they are no in a kill shelter and only have a few days before they will be euthanized. With the rescue of the 5 puppymill dogs today, we are beyond full and we are looking for emergency foster homes who can take in these puppies. Please help us make the agony they endured in that trailer a beginning of a new life for these babies. I do not know sexes yet but will post that when I get that information. Pictures of the 5 puppies are below. The puppies will be located in Kansas City, MO. If you are willing to give a temporary or permanent home to one of these puppies, please fill out a foster application on the main page and email us directly at rescue@wheatenterrierrescue.org 8/22 Update Thanks to all the people who have expressed an interest in these puppies. With your help we have committed to taking them into rescue! The plans are as of now that we will pick up these puppies from the shelter this Saturday. I will get them into the vet on Monday and hopefully they will be in good enough condition to be spayed and neutered that week. Assuming that we are able to do that they will need to go on to foster/forever homes the weekend of September 3rd as we are beyond full here. The puppies are estimated to be between 4 and 5 months of age. If you are interested and are able to come to Kansas City that weekend, please email me directly at rescue@wheatenterrierrescue.org If this changes I will update this page and let everyone know. 8/27 Update Four of the five puppies are now here in rescue. The fifth, Sylvie was adopted at the shelter. The puppies were all very happy to be reunited and spent the afternoon running around in the yard playing. The black male, Jake, is a total lovebug and lapdog. He just wants to be held, petted and loved. The other three are a bit more wary and reserved but by the end of the day they were coming up asking to be petted. All four have vets appointments on Monday and are scheduled for spaying and neutering on Tuesday. All should be ready to go to their new homes the weeked on Sept. 3rd. Sept 4, 2005 Jimmy went to his forever home today! The adoption for Jennie has fallen through and she is now available to be adopted. Several people have written asking if the puppies are mixed with a chow due to some of them having black on their tongues. This is a common old wives tale that is untrue. Many breeds, including purebred Wheatens, can have black pigmentation on their tongues, it has nothing to do with a chow being in their lineage. |
